Flashback Friday: Renew Daily

This project was a hinged shadowbox frame that I created for the Pink Paislee booth for CHA-S 2008 featuring the Pop Fashion collection.  The frame was another clearance find at Hobby Lobby.  I painted the outside with pink crackle paint that let the original white of the frame show through.  Inside the box, I included a piece of Magic Mesh that I cut into a circle with scallop edges.  It came with a waxy backing paper that I left with it and stitched the two together.  I layered those onto a round acrylic piece that I adhered with foam squares so that it would float out from the back.  I added a photo of my wee one Emma's hands catching sunlight.  I embellished the photo with flowers from Maya Road, vintage buttons, silk ribbon, florist wire, clear pieces from Heidi Swapp, and a rub-on and chipboard from the collection.  I really thought it turned out pretty and really showcased such a sweet and treasured photo.

Flashback Friday: Miracle of Life Layout

Just before CHA I shared some of the pages to my portfolio that made.  I thought it would be fun to keep sharing these so look for a different every Friday.

I did this page for a sketch challenge on an awesome sketch site by Zarah.  Sadly she isn't posting sketches anymore which is too bad, because hers rocked!  This page features papers from Pink Paislee's Pop Fashion Line.  The photos are of me looking and my wee girl Emma after she was born.  The tag reads, "It is in this moment when the world is still that I am touched by the magic, mystery, and miracle of life".

I thought I would continue sharing some more of these portfolio pages I made featuring some of my favorite past projects.  Today's is a page (um, yes, you read that right, a scrapbook page!) that I did for a guest spot last year for the Creative Therapy blog.  If I remember right, the challenge had to do with home, which is a theme I love and use a lot.

Papercrafts March/April 2009

What, two posts in a day?  From me, the girl who seems to forget that she has a blog?  Amazing! This past summer, I was approached at CHA by the editors of PaperCrafts to use a piece I had created for the Pink Paislee booth.  The project was already spoken for on another project so I offered to make something else for them along the same lines.  I have never been one to get much pub love from magazines and had tried for PaperCrafts so many times so to be invited by them to create something by request was a real thrill! It seems like so long ago that I almost kind of forgot about it.  This past week when I got a box from them it was such a wonderful surprise to find my project along with some issues of the magazine.  It almost felt like Christmas! And um, check out who is on the page next to me.. . Jenni Bowlin.  Um, I LOVE her.  Her lines are some of my absolute favorites.  Seriously! So I thought I would share a few photos of the actual project now that it is officially in print and out there.  I have kept it a secret for so long, I am glad to finally get to post it. All of the papers used here are Vintage Moon by Pink Paislee. PS- The vintage sheet music used here is a free downloadable from my site Fairy Davis Paper Goods.  If you love vintage goods in your crafting I think you will love Fairy Davis.  There are tons of great images there to choose from and everything, yes EVERYTHING is free.

A Zarah sketch, part 2

Here is the second of Zarah's two sketches I used:

From it I created the following page featuring Pink Paislee's Vintage Moon papers.

For my upper photo, I used six small photos and mounted them onto one piece of paper to create a photo collage. The second photo is of my front yard garden. I love the accidental lighting I captured in that photo because it makes it look like such a calm and peaceful place.

I also dug into my stash and pulled out a copper tag by K&Co that I have had forever. I always loved it because it reminded me of the copper plant markers I use in my garden. It reads "Scatter seeds of kindness wherever you go". Love that.

Zarah ' s sketch, part 1-

I am one of the most layout challenged people ever! When I sit down to make a page I sometimes feel so overwhelmed! I think I can glue paper on just about anything, but ask me to do a page and I feel completely befuddled as to what to do. That is one reason why I really like working with sketches. Recently, Zarah, who creates sketches and posts them on her blog site Zarah's Sketches & Inspirations asked me to do a page using one of her sketches. She sent me two to choose from. I fell in love with both and decided to do two pages. That is quite an accomplishment for me!

For the first page I made using one of Zarah's sketches, I used this sketch:

A few mornings ago, Emma climbed into bed with me after David left for work. There is nothing sweeter than the quiet still moments when I have been able to sit and just watch my wee ones sleep. Even at 18, 14, and 4, I still feel a certain magic when I watch them sleep just as I did when they were new to the world. Suddenly, I had a phrase come to mind that I knew I needed to get up and write down because it so captured what I was feeling.

"It is in this moment when the world is still that I am touched by the magic, mystery, and miracle of life.

With that and a great sketch, a page was born. I love the way it turned out. It so captures the feeling I hoped for it to. The photo, one of my very favorites, is of me watching over Emma asleep in her little bed on the first day of her life. Such a sweet moment- truly a moment of magic, mystery, and pure miracle.

Oh, and a quick tip, for adding a little depth and shadow to your letter stickers, layer two together. Here I used the dark greenish-brown and pink Fashion Script letter stickers by Pink Paislee. Simply adhere the lighter colored sticker to the top of the darker one, off-setting it slightly to the right.
