Guest Designer: Pink Paislee!

Classes: Art Inspired Studios June 2 Brentwood California

I wanted to share the class dates and times I have set for my visit to Art Inspired Studios in Brentwood, CA on June 2.  I will be offering the ILY decor class and the 12 Things tag book class.  Both are technique classes and full of ideas for using Distress Ink products and for tons of ways to alter and and color and finishes to your metal embellishments.  Both classes are full of Tim Holtz, Ranger Ink, and Sizzix products.

ILY (I Love You) Decor  $35  June 2nd 10am-1pm

In this class you will take a plain wooden picture frame and give it life by converting it into a fun wooden decor piece that is all about love.  We will explore techniques for altering the wood to give it a great weathered look, changing up plain metal embellishments to give them color, and learn new ways to die cut elements.  The class is sure to give you some new ideas that you can use again and again in other projects.  You will have several styles of pattern papers and different stain colors to choose from so that your project will be a great match for your decor.

12 Things Tag Book  $40 June 2 3-6pm

In this workshop style class we will make a fun tag book that you can use to record little snapshots and thoughts about life.  The class will focus techniques for altering metal embellishments using Distress Inks and Stains, embossing powders, paints, and alcohol inks.  We will have lots of fun extra embellishments and pattern papers on hand to rummage through to finish your book off in a way that is uniquely your own.

Imagination embossed tag-

Today I have a really quick tag to share.  Even though it is quick and simple, I think it is so pretty and looks like it took more time than it did.

Begin by blending Broken China and Peeled Paint Distress Inks onto a manila tag using an ink blending tool.

Place the tag into an embossing folder (I used the new Book Covers Texture Fade).  Emboss the tag. 

Mist the surface of the tag generously with Mint Perfect Pearls Mist.  Blot away any excess mist and dry with a heat tool.

Apply Vintage Photo Distress Ink on the edges of the tag and onto the front of the tag on the raised areas.

Stamp a phrase onto a canvas ATC using Jet Black Archival Ink.

Add Vintage Photo Distress Ink to the edges of the canvas ATC.

Adhered the ATC to the center front of the tag.  Attach with two Tiny Attacher staples.  Add ribbon to the tag if desired.

Super easy and so very pretty!

Live in the Moment Embossed Canvas Tag

Today I am sharing another tag I made for CHA in January.  I found a stash of project images that I had never edited.  I didn't even write down supplies!  I was in such a last minute crunch that I just made things fast and furious.  This one is pretty simple to make so I can actually remember what I did and what colors I used to create it.

I started by covering a manila tag with Sticky Back Canvas.  I embossed the tag with the Book Covers Texture Fade with the oval center.

I used an ink blending tool to color the canvas with Wild Honey Distress Ink.  After applying the Wild Honey, I skimmed over the surface with Vintage Photo Distess Ink and an ink blending tool, applying color to just the raised areas of the design.  I brushed more Vintage photo along the edges to darken them.

I embossed a scrap of smooth natural colored cardstock witht he same embossing folder.  I cut around the edge of the oval design.  I blended Vintage Photo around the edges of the piece in toward the center.  I stamped a phrase onto the oval and then adhered it to the tag matching it up with the design on the canvas.

I added machine stitching along the top and bottom edges and around the oval.

To embellish the tag, I die-cut two pieces of crinoline with the Tattered Pinecone die.  After die-cutting the crinoline, I colored them with Distress Stain (Tattered Rose and Scattered Straw).  I dried the pieces of crinoline, brushed the edges with Vintage Photo Distress Ink, and then assembled them according to the package directions.  I adhered the two assembled flowers along with two leaves (leaves from Prima Holiday Lights Sprays).

I think this tag turned out so pretty and yet it was simple and quick!  I absolutely love the way the Tattered Pinecone die works with crinoline.  The flowers look so dainty and vintage!

Fit for a king. . .

I have a fun little project to share that I realized recently that I never shared.

Way back in January for CHA I made a crown for the super fun and always so jovial Ted Cutts (Mr. Stampers Anonymous).  It was part of a joke that started on Twitter during Tim's 12 Tags of Christmas.  We (me, Mario, Joy, and Chelle) decided that Ted needed a crown and be named the King of the 40404 (Twitter talk for number that tweets come to your phone in the form of text messages).   With lots of love and giggles, I made a crown for Ted and gave it to him at CHA.

I made Ted's crown out of grungepaper that I die cut using the Gadget Gears and  Ornate On the Edge dies.

I used gold and silver Adirondack paint dabbers to paint the grunge paper.  I applied it in a cross hatch pattern so that it would look like brushed metal.  I added a bit of stamping with the Royal Script stamp set using Jet Black Archival ink.  (You can't give Mr. Stampers Anonymous a project without some of his stamps on them, can you?)  After sewing sections together to create a round shape, I added sections of die cut and torn grungepaper to the top and bottom edges.

I to hide some seams and add some interest, I added strips of Film Strip Ribbon randomly around the crown.  I topped the film strip with strips of adhesive foil tape in differnt metalic colors.  On top of the foil, I added a Washer and a Long Reach Fastener.  I thought the combination of the washers and fasteners looked like studs and added to the industrial look of the crown.

To embellish the front of the crown, I added several layers of die cut grungepaper gears that were painted with the metallic paint dappers.

In between the layers of grungepaper gears I tucked in metal Idea-ology Sprocket Gears.

At the center of the gear cluster I added a grungeboard crown shape from the Grungeboard Elements pack.  I painted the crown gold and then added clear embossing powder to give is a slightly shiny finish to make it stand out.  I felt that every crown must have jewels, so I added three Swarovski Crystals to the small crown shape.  I pierced holes along the sides of the crystals and added wire wrapping to hold them securely in place.

To embellish the front below the number I added the numbers 40404 to make reference to Twitter.

To color the silver numbers, I first applied a coat of black paint using a black paint dabber.  After it dried, I added a bit of silver.  Once the silver paint was dry, I applied gold paint dabber.  When all of the paint was completely dry, I applied clear embossing ink and clear embossing powder.  Heating the powder to melt sometimes causes the paint underneath to bubble and separate a bit.  I love the look it creates.

I also painted and embossed the brads for the numbers to match as well.

Finally, I lined the inside of the crown with Sticky Back Canvas to cover all of the brad prongs.

At the show, I waited until Ted was away and left it on his demo table along with some Slo Poke candies.  Ted is a notoriously slow tweeter so I thought the candy was a nice finish.

I am a jet setter for sure. . . Ranger U take 2!

Here I am, playing catch up again before jetting off to my next location.  This past week I had the absolute thrill to get to go to New Jersey the Ranger Ink to attend their fabulous Ranger U training.  Originally I had planned to just go to observe and help as research for a secret project I am working on, but at the last minute someone ened up not being able to attend so I got to go and be a student also.  I tell you, the expirience is so amazing, I would go every year if they would let me.  Tim joked and told everyone I had to attend again because I failed the first time!!

I snatched this picture from the fabulous Dyan Reavely's blog.  It is me helping with set up the day before the classes started.  It was so amazing to see the behind the scenes of how they pull everything together.  The Ranger Team are truly pros at making this incredible weekend go off without a hitch.

This guy, I suppose you know him, Tim Holtz.  Three days of instruction with him is indescribable.  I appreciate him so much and am so blessed to know him.

Dyan Reavely. . . what a non-stop boondle (that is bundle in Dyan accent) of energy.  I adore her.  She makes me laugh until I cry.  I could sit and listen to her talk all day about art journaling and what art means to her.  This was her first time teaching at Ranger U and she was amazing!

Rounding out the teachers was the fabulous Claudine Hellmuth.  I adore Claudine and her fun whimsical style.  She is such a sweet and genuine person.  I love every chance I get to sit and visit with her.

I had the pleasure of spending the weekend sitting next to this awesome girl, Ronda Palazzari.  I also got to sit across from the fabulous Patti Euler, owner of The Queen's Ink in Savage Md.  (I wish I had taken a photo with Patti, but me, I am bad about remembering to take photos and went home without one.)

I had a fun dinner date with the fabulous Terry Horvath from Ranger too.  It was so fun sitting with Terry and talking about how amazing it is to work for fabulous crafty companies.  I had to steal this photo from Dyan's blog too since again, I forgot to take a photo of my own.  I seriously don't have a very good scrapbooker mentality with photos.

I met so many great people in this class.  It was so great get to share the amazing weekend with them.  So many people that I should have grabbed a photo with (Mario, Patty, Patti. . .) but I was so lost in the moment that I totally forgot.

By day 2, my hands looked like this. . . by the end of day 3 and the lesson in Distress, they were beyond the help of a Craft Scrubbie.  I came home with inky and blissful hands.

And in my inky hands, I was thrilled to finish the weekend holding this.  Certified (again) to share all there is to know about all things Ranger.  I can't wait to show you what I learned, just as soon as my jet setting ways slow down a bit. . .
