To kick off the holiday season, I am sharing a holiday project that I have been keeping secret for several months.
I often joke and say that you will never see me in the pages of Creating Keepsakes Magazine because they feature scrapbook pages and I pretty much only make "stuff". So imagine how tickled I was when I found this in ad in the current issue of CK! A few months ago I made a project for Therm O Web for use in a holiday ad. I knew it would be featured in a print ad, but I didn't know the ad would be in CK.
The project you see in the ad is one I have shared before, a letter box I created for BasicGrey for CHA Summer featuring the Jovial collection. You can learn a little more about the project here: BasicGrey Jovial Tidings of Joy Letter Box.
What I hadn't shared before is that I had actually created a matching project that was specifically for the Therm O Web ad, a Christmas Countdown Chalkboard. Since I had made a the letterbox for BasicGrey I sent it along with the chalkboard. It turned out the at the ad features the letterbox front and center with the chalkboard in the background. Since the ad is now officially out there, I can finally share the chalkboard.
The base of the project is a metal sign that I picked up and a craft supply store in the home decor department. I used Therm O Web's Mounting Adhesive Sheets to adhere the paper (Blizzard and Shopkeeper) to the metal.
I used two styles of BasicGrey letter stickers (Micro Monogram and 12x12 alphas) to spell out "days until Christmas" on a piece of Basics manila Blueline patterned paper which was adhered to a piece of chipboard. The snowflakes are rhinestone and olio rub-ons from the Jovial collection. I accented the rub-ons and the patterned paper with Crystal Stickles and rhinestones from the rub-on set.
I cut flowers from Merry Maker pattern paper. I layered the pieces with TOW 3D Foam Squares. The large brad in the center is a paper covered jumbo brad by Bazzill. The smaller glitter brad (below) is unknown. I accented the flowers with Crystal Stickles.
The chalkboard in the center of the project is a plastic chalkboard that I got in the dollar bin at Michaels. I cut it to the size I wanted with my craft knife.
I cut a chipboard frame for the chalkboard and adhered it to the chalkboard using Super Tape. I covered the frame with Blizzard patterned paper. I added two more layers of chipboard below the chalkboard (covered with Snowball and Flannel Pajamas). Each layer was adhered together with Super Tape. The assembled piece was adhered with 3D Foam Squares. Each element was inked with Vintage Photo Distress Ink.
Both pieces are now back home with me. As soon as I break out the holiday decor we will begin the daily countdown on the chalkboard and start gathering and displaying our holiday cards in the letter box. I know my wee one is super anxious to break out the chalk and let the counting down begin!
