Tattered Angels Educator: Distressed Glimmer Chip Accents

I shared this post today on the Tattered Angels Educators blog and thought I would share it here as well.  I really love the end result and hope you find some inspiration in it too! ----------------------------- Today I would like to share with you one of my favorite ways to create distressed and shabby elements for my projects using Tattered Angels Nature Glimmer Chips. To begin, I paint a thin coat of paint in a base color over my chip.  In this example, I am using Claudine Hellmuth Studio paints in Traditional Tan. Once the first coat is dry, I add a second coat of paint (Dab of Yellow).  I apply it really thin so that the base color will show through in areas. Next, once the paint is dry I apply a light to medium coat of Glimmer Mist (Chocolate Covered Cherries), making sure to leave a lot of paint color showing through. Once the Glimmer Mist is dry, I use a small scrap of fine sandpaper to sand the raised embossed design on the chip tile.  As you sand, you will remove various layers of the Glimmer Mist and paint colors exposing layers below and leaving a very worn and vintage look. You can also use crackle paints to get a really shabby effect.  On this piece, I did my first coat of paint in Claudine Hellmuth Studio Painterly Pink and topped it with a thick coat of Tim Holtz Distress Crackle Piant in Tattered Rose.  Once the crackle paint was dry, I sprayed the piece with Glimmer Mist in Pink Bubblegum. After sanding, if you want to deepen up the color in the recessed area and work any extra glimmer into the cracks, you can spray a bit of Glimmer Mist onto a cosmetic sponge and dab it into the areas you want to accent.  If you get any on the raised areas and want to remove it, just sand a bit more. I finished off both pieces by sponging on a bit of brown ink onto the edges. I used both of these pieces as an accent on a photo frame.  The frame was a clearance aisle find at a hobby store.  I gave it new life by recovering it with a piece of scrapbook paper (Prima: Raspberry Tea Collection) that I gave extra glimmer with Chocolate Covered Cherries Glimmer Mist.  I added a doodle looking black border rub-on (BasicGrey) helps draw the focus in to the center of the frame.  To embellish the frame I adhered the pink chip piece below the photo and added a silk flower and velvet leaves (both Prima) to the center and crowned it all with a piece of vintage jewelry. To add extra interest to the butterfly, I added Glimmer Glass wings that were slightly smaller than my Glimmer Chip butterfly.  I adhered the two wing pieces to the chip butterfly with clear adhesive Zots.  I placed a small adhesive pearl (BasicGrey Opaline Pearls) under each Glimmer Glass wing to hold it up. I also added adhesive pearls to the center of the butterfly.  I bent the wings of the chip butterfly up slightly and adhered it to the frame using adhesive foam squares.  I think the butterfly looks as if it is almost hovering above the frame.
