Today I did something that I haven't done in what seems like forever, I played with my scrappy stuff for no reason at all other than to play. It seems like lately I have been so busy doing projects for assignments or classes, that I haven't done anything for just the pure joy of creating.
I have been really fascinated and inspired by the amazing projects by mixed media/collage artists, particularly my friend Catherine Matthews-Scanlon. I have wanted to try my hand at it for a while but just hadn't for whatever reason. Since I actually collect vintage photos, it seemed like something I should try, something that would mix the best of two loves.
For this project, I used a 12x12 deep edge painters canvas painted brown. I added a little Pink Paislee along with all types of assorted goodies from recent Studio Calico kits.
The quote is probably my most favorite ever. Catherine once had a project (featured in a HHS class by the way) that included the phrase "I'm about to come alive". I forget now the exact song that she heard it in, but she said it reminded her of how her art made her feel. Not long after I happened upon an article in a magazine that included the quote I used today on my canvas. It was such a magic moment when I found it because the quote spoke so deeply to me and was a perfect companion to Catherine's quote, which had been on my mind quite a bit at the time. I decided today as I was making this canvas, that it was the quote I wanted to feature in my scrap room. Creating and playing with paper makes me feel alive. It is the magic *it* for me. I long to fill my life daily with that magic and to always be alive with the joy it gives me. {whew! That was kind of deep. . . }
