When you have a small child, you can sometimes see the changes in them daily. After the first birthday things seem to slow down a little and both you and the child develop routines. Tammy and I have been extremely blessed with Emma. I read a lot of the What to Expect... books at first, but as Emma grew I thought it was getting easy, and abandoned the reading. I thought I had this Daddy Thing down pretty good.
Should have read one more chapter...
Sunday night I decided it was time to get rid of the crib, and put Em in a big girl bed. Most kids her age I thought were already switched, and she has been sleeping in a toddler bed at Grandma's house for a while now. I didn't think there was a problem. I even disassembled the crib and called Jason to see if he wanted to come get it. The plan all along was for the crib to be used for Bug, and I didn't want to carry it down stairs. So at 10:00 PM Jason came and got the crib.
Emma had shown a great amount of excitement when we let her back into her room to see the new bed. She climbed right on up, smiling and dancing. After Jason left, and the house was settled, it was time for Emma to go to bed. It was nearly 10:30.
I am sure that you all will picture the rest. After an hour and half filled with some screaming and crying, and Daddy remorse, Emma finally collapsed on the floor from exhaustion. I sat beside her bed until she finally was asleep enough for me to go off to bed. Last night was a little easier, so I anticipate that things will be back to normal soon enough.
